Friday June 3 Day 5

Sorry for not posting the last few days.  The Grade 3's had 3 days of testing and from a quick look at their booklets they did quite well in Math.    There is some fine-tuning needed in writing but overall they worked very hard and I'm sure they are glad it is over.

While the Gr. 3's were writing their tests,  the Gr.2's worked hard on their animal projects and we learned alot about different animals and the life cycles of different types of animals.    We also talked about the impact that animals have on humans and more importantly we talked about and watched videos about the impact that humans have on animals.  We pollute land, water and air and that all affects animals and their habitats.   The images we saw of sea animals caught in six-pack rings and the island of water bottles in the ocean was shocking.

We also looked at how different families in different countries meet their needs.   We talked about getting food, shelter and clothing and how that is all different depending on where you live.    We also talked about children working and helping out at home and how that is different in different cultures.

Today we worked on completing lots of unfinished Math.    We had a music lesson about orchestra instruments and also had a sing-a-long.    After recess we did Art/ Math.  Some students completed quilt squares that furthered our understanding of area, fractions and geometry ,while integrating some of our work we are doing on pioneers.   In particular, 'bees' where people would work together to do a job.
It helped them understand the pioneer saying "Many hands make light work."

After recess, we had a nice, calm independent reading period  and we finished with a bit of Open Mic.

Reminder:  Please return TSO, Black Creek ( Gr.3) and Zoo ( Gr.2) forms.
