Today we graphed our temperature and read the morning message and moved quickly into making thank you cards for Emmanuel, our Roots of Empathy instructor. He worked very had and was very patient and caring when working with the class.
We then went to Gym with Mr. Costa.
When we returned to class, we did some science. We are planting seeds and keeping a plant Journal.
Each student got to choose 3 seeds of either corn, beans, peas, or pumpkin. Corn was the big winner!
We examined the seeds with magnifying glasses, and also had close up images from the ELMO on the whiteboard. We drew a picture and wrote a description of our seed. We then rested our seeds on a wet paper towel, inside a clear cup.
After lunch, we continued with hour plants. We started a Plant Journal. In the journal we pasted our seed description. Our first entry into our Journal was to write the procedure of what we did this morning using a step my step format. We will be making observations daily, recording changes in our journals. We then made a graph with which we will record the growth of our plant overtime once it sprouts. All our records will be housed in our Journals.
After recess, we looked at some cultural dances and recorded the elements of dance used. Grade 2's focused on body movement, and movement in space, while the Grade 3's focused on the timing and energy of the dances. Our observations were kept in a table. The videos we shown were Greek, Jewish, African, Jamaican, First Nations, Irish, and Indian cultural dances. We will use these as inspirations to create our own dances later on.
Reminder: Bring a lunch tomorrow as we will leave school around 11:30am to attend the TSO.
