Friday September 17 Day 4

We made it through another week.    It was great getting a chance to meet many of you at Curriculum Night.    It was very successful and hope you have a better insight into the class and how it runs.

Today we started to talk about place value.  We looked at how a numeral can have a different value depending on where it is in a number.   We then looked at base-10 blocks.  Each block has a name , ones/units,  tens/rods and  hundreds/flats (more for Gr.3).

After lunch, the students created some very interesting works of art that examined different kinds of line.   In the activity we reviewed the math concept of attributes and while creating our art, we thought about what kind of lines we drew ( wavy, straight, thick, thin, etc.) what colours we used, and also what medium we used to create the line ( pastel, crayon, pencil crayon, marker).  As an additional challenge some students tried to make a pattern.   Their art is displayed on the bulletin board on the east wall outside the class.

We read two more chapters of our novel.  Eduard is going on a trip.  See if your child can answer:
Where is he going?  How is he getting there?

We revisited  www.bitstripsforschools.com   Student login   Area 203  to continue work on our avatars and creating simple comic strips.

Spelling books were sent home this weekend so students could study the list words and Superwords for the Spelling Test on Monday.  Please bring the text back on Monday so we can begin Lesson 2.

Anyone interested in trying out for Cross-country running needs to have the form returned on Monday to participate.
We are still accepting donations for Pakistan in the upcoming week.

Have a great weekend!
