Wednesday September 22 Day 2

We started off with Gym with a supply teacher today.  After Gym we recored the temperature on our graphs and we reviewed patterns and attributes.  Most of us were able to identify a pattern that had three attributes changing!  Well done!   Now we are working at describing the patterns and extending them once we identify the core.

We used the rest of our Math period to continue our work on place-value and patterning activities.

After lunch we started writing acrostic poems.   We talked about planning and brainstorming before we write.  We created a word web with all our ideas.    We did some shared writing about " hockey".
Students then did their own brainstorming and word webs about whatever they wanted to write about.
e.g.
Shines all day giving light and warmth.
Under a tree for shade.
Nice to be outside and playing.

We continued with our Literacy Groups.
Last period we talked about the seven large land masses called continents. We named the seven continents and used atlases to help us recognize the shape and location in the world.

NOTE: I am not usually one to ban toys at school, but I am finding that "Silly Bands" are becoming a bit of a distraction in class and during lineups at entry and dismissal times.  We are going to talk about this tomorrow to decide what is a fair way to deal with this issue without having to ban them outright.  Any ideas?

HOMEWORK: Read 20 min.   Think about connections you are making when you read.
Optional: Look at an atlas at home and see what interesting things you can find.
