Monday September 20 Day 5

We began the day with a visit to the library with Mr. Brutto.   Most students signed out two books and if books are returned next week, they may be able to sign out three books.

Eduard Tulane is a very valuable possession to Abilene.   In  our Journal today, we wrote about our favourite or most valuable toy.   I encouraged students to indent the first line of their writing, and they were encouraged to write between 5 and 10 sentences.

In Math we divided into two groups.

One group created patterns with one, two or three attributes changing.
The other group did work on place value.  We modelled a number with base-10 blocks, drew a sketch of the blocks and then wrote the number word to go with the number.  We focused on two-digit numbers, three digits if it was too easy.

We had our first spelling test after lunch today.   We then began Lesson 2.
We read two more chapters of "The Miraculous Journey of Eduard Tulane".   Eduard is on the Queen Mary, on his way to England.  Two boys stripped Eduard of his fine clothing and played catch with him, and by accident Eduard has been thrown overboard into the ocean.  What will become of Eduard?

I handed out a Homework Book to Grade 2's so they can record homework activities and get used to using a tool to keep themselves organized.  If a check mark appears by something, that means they have completed that activity.
HOMEWORK:     Journal:  My Valuable Toy    ( 5 to 10 sentences)
